GENERAL EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
At Phoenix Alternative, we believe that every interaction is an opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen our community. Students are expected to treat themselves, others, and their surroundings with respect. This includes using appropriate language, demonstrating safe behaviors, and contributing positively to the school environment.
When concerns arise, our focus is on understanding the situation, restoring relationships, and helping students develop the skills needed to make positive choices moving forward. Through restorative conversations, reflection, problem-solving, and collaboration with staff, peers, and families, students are supported in taking responsibility for their actions and repairing any harm that may have occurred.
CELL PHONE POLICY
To promote engagement, learning, and meaningful interactions throughout the school day, the use of cell phones and personal electronic devices is strictly prohibited during school hours.
Upon entering the school building each morning, students are required to turn in their cell phones to the designated staff member or secure collection area. Devices will be safely stored for the duration of the school day and will be returned to students at dismissal when they leave the school premises.
Students are expected to comply with this procedure daily. Any electronic device that is not surrendered upon arrival and is found in use during the school day will be addressed through restorative conversations with school staff and administration. Our goal is to help students understand the purpose of this policy, reflect on its impact on learning and community, and work collaboratively toward positive choices.
Exceptions may be made only when authorized by the school administration for specific educational, medical, or accessibility needs.
At Phoenix Alternative, we believe that limiting distractions and encouraging face-to-face interactions supports student well-being, strengthens relationships, and fosters a positive learning environment for all.
VACATIONS
Parents who foresee a vacation during the year should utilize the weeks of vacation outlined in the school calendar. If you must go away during school days, it is required that you inform the general office and your child’s teachers about your child’s extended absence. Please take special note of the EXAM PERIODS when they are announced. Students will still be responsible for schoolwork and new materials covered during their absence.
MEDICATION
School personnel may NOT give medication of any kind (including aspirin) to students without written authorization from a physician and parent. In special circumstances, it is advisable to contact the school administration to explain exactly what is required.
